World Vision
Agent: Christy

• Christy immediately started collecting my name, phone number and email address. I expressed I would like more information about the program before I gave that information.

• She said World Vision goes into a poverty-stricken area and rounds up the children. Once the leaders allow them to come in and help by improving education facilities or clean water facilities, the leaders of the community tell everyone World Vision is going to help and then World Vision goes out and starts rounding up the children. The sponsorship funds are what allows them to go in and help the communities with the goal of making them self-sufficient. The sponsorship not only affects your particular child, but the community as a whole becomes self sufficient because of the sponsorships that are going into the community

• Q: What specifically will my child receive because of the sponsorship amount I’m giving?
A: Clean water in the community, education facility and food. We are able to go in and nourish the grounds that are already there. The money goes into a child and family pool of funds to benefit the entire community. Your child is directly affected in the way of correspondence and because the community as a whole is receiving more nourished grounds.

• Q: So is each community the same, or will some sponsored children benefit differently than others?
A: There is a traditional child for $30 per month and then there is a Hope Child for $35 per month. A Hope Child is in an area that is severely affected by HIV/AIDs and they receive additional care because of that. Otherwise, they all pretty much work the same. One donor, one sponsor per child. Over the years you are able to correspond with them and through correspondence you learn other ways you can help the family based on what they are going through.

• Q: So every community will have a well and a school provided?
A: That is correct, there will be clean water, not even so much a well, some places have pumps that provide working water to the community. Some areas have the wells, the water, more nourished grounds. We try to pave the way so they can take care of their crops and become self-sufficient, so we can leave and they will be okay without someone else’s help.

• Q: How do the children get the benefits from sponsorship?
A: We have one national office in each area and all of the funds are received there and then the office goes through the appropriate measures to take care of the needs of the communities.

• Q: Is my child going to get medical care because of sponsorship?
A: In the event that the child needed major medical care, it would be on a case by case basis. If there were facilities in the area for the child to receive it, then they would go forth and receive it but the typical sponsorship amount doesn’t cover medical care. Sometimes, through correspondence, a family can request the specific help from their sponsor.

• Q: Do you have scholarships for children?
A: If there were extended education facilities in the area, we have many donors that choose to send their child after they have left the program.

• Q: Is there anything that makes you different from the other organizations?
A: I’m not totally familiar with the other organizations, but your monthly sponsorship doesn’t just go directly to the child, it affects the entire community.

• Q: Are you religiously affiliated?
A: Absolutely, we are a Christian organization.

• Q: The child receives counseling or attends church services?
A: Yes, bible studies and classes. In the event the area doesn’t tolerate different religions, we are careful not to offend them.
